Hong Kong, China Issues the "Food and Drugs (Composition and Labelling) (Amendment) Regulation 2025"
On August 21, 2025, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong, China Government announced that the Food and Drugs (Composition and Labelling) (Amendment) Regulation 2025 (the "Amendment Regulation") was passed by the Legislative Council on August 20 through the "first enactment, then scrutiny" process to strengthen the regulation of prepackaged konjac jelly. The Amendment Regulation will take effect on April 1, 2026. From that date onward, mini-cup konjac jellies with a height or width of no more than 45 millimeters will be prohibited from sale on the market. Other prepackaged konjac jelly products must display a choking prevention warning statement on their packaging to remind the public to consume them with caution.
